Dr. Ofir Menashe

Senior lecturer and faculty member at Kinneret Academic College.

Dr. Menashe is a specialist in environmental biotechnology with an emphasis on water and wastewater bio-treatment. His knowledge integrates multidisciplinary fields including microbiology, biotechnology, water, engineering, polymers and eco-toxicology. His research interests are in the use of biotechnological applications for microorganisms with an emphasis on macro-encapsulation methods, in particular within a confined environment (SBP technology). Dr. Menashe’s recent publications are considered pioneering in the field of microorganism’s macro-encapsulation methods and water utilities. Dr. Menashe has also been granted several patents relating to water treatment methods.

Dr. Menashe took part in designing and establishing the microbiology study program in the early developmental stages of the Water Industry Engineering studies (2010). This included establishing the laboratory infrastructure and providing the laboratory procedures and safety protocols. The water and wastewater microbiology laboratory is considered a unique educational laboratory in Israel, since the students are able to experience working with natural wastewater with a  wide ranges of microorganisms, including pathogens and parasites.  In 2016, Dr. Menashe established his research laboratory, the Environmental Biotechnology Laboratory at the College, which opened new opportunities for applied research in microbiology and water treatment processes, with an emphasis on micropollutants and waste membranes biodegradation. The Environmental Biotechnology Laboratory presents a direct affinity to environmental sustainability by developing an innovative treatment process for persistent contaminants and by reducing the human environmental fingerprint through inventing new water and waste treatment processes associated with a reduction of required infrastructure.
