Prof. Raphael Semiat

Professor Raphael Semiat is Chair of the Water Engineering MSc program at Kinneret College.
Raphael Semiat is a Professor Emeritus in the Chemical Engineering Department, Technion, Israel Institute of Technology.

Professor Raphael Semiat obtained his B.Sc. degree in Chemical Engineering from the Technion in 1973 and obtained his D.Sc. dissertation on MED Desalination in 1978 at the Technion. Prof. Semiat is an expert in separation processes with industrial experience in IMI (TAMI), a subsidiary of Israel Chemicals Ltd, where he served as a senior research engineer and as the head of the Heat and Mass Transfer Engineering Research Department.

Prof. Semiat joined the Chemical Engineering Department of the Technion in 1990. His main research interests are Process Development, and Separation Processes with an emphasis on Desalination. The research subjects associated with membrane processes and membrane fouling prevention are of relevance. He has published over two hundred papers/chapters in scientific journals/books and a similar number in conference proceedings. Most of his current research subjects are associated with the industry.

Prof. Semiat is the founder and president of the Israel Desalination Society and has recently served as the Head of the Chemical Engineering Program, Guangdong-Technion Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT). He served as a co-editor of the Desalination Journal. Prof. Semiat was nominated to hold the Yitzhak Rabin Memorial Chair in Science, Engineering, and Management. He served as the director of the Technion Grand Water Research Institute, and later as chairman of the Chemical Engineering Department. Currently, he oversees the Rabin Desalination Laboratory.
